At last Barcelona could finally announce the signing of Memphis Depay, Ronald Koeman's dream signing, doing so in deal which was positive for the financial situation of the club.
Depay arrived as a free agent, just like Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia, meaning Barca only had to reach an agreement on his salary and the amount of years he would sign for. That being said, the Catalan side did have to bump up their offer to secure his signing, amid the growing pressure from Juventus.
Signing for just two seasons, what Barcelona have assured is that Depay will continue and complete these two terms, given that no club on the planet will be able to sign him via his staggering release clause.
According to information from 'AS', Barcelona managed to slap a clause worth 400 million euros on his name, which works out to be up there with the highest in the squad. If, in those two years, another club wants to sign him, they were will have to part ways with a near-impossible and unthinkable amount of money in today's market.
"In my career, I've always had highs and lows, good and bad moments, and all that makes you learn as you go along. For that reason, I think arriving at Barca is a great step forward in my career", said Depay himself from the Netherlands camp.
