DC United position themselves as escape route for Özil
DC United have just become Özil's main escape route in case he tries to leave Arsenal, with whom he is not registered for either the Premier or the Europa League. 'The Sun' claim that the American club could try to sign him in the winter market.
The player is under contract until 2021, so they would have to make an offer. This will have to be around 8.4 million euros to be successful, as the parameters of ProFootballDB estimate. Another option is to wait until he is free.
It is expected that, if offers come in, the Arsenal board wouldn't look badly upon him leaving. At the end of the day, he's not going to be able to play in official matches this season at first, and if they don't sell him, they will have to see how he leaves for free when his contract is up.
The option of moving to the MLS was already on the table for Özil, who has gone from being amongst the best in Spain and England to being a leftover at Arsenal. He himself showed his dissatisfaction with how he is being treated by a team he has been with since the 2013-14 season.
