Atletico Madrid edged past Valencia to extend their lead over their La Liga opponents to nine points, in their Saturday clash at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Angel Correa fired home from 20 yards in the second half to give 'Atleti' a one goal lead, allowing them to close the gap on Barcelona to nine points, after the league leaders failed to claim all three points in their draw with Espanyol earlier on Sunday.
The victory also means that 'Atleti' sit ten points clear of Real Madrid, with their rivals also dropping points in their Saturday draw against Levante.
Elsewhere, Girona triumphed over Athletic Bilbao thanks to two goals from Cristian Stuani (7', 65'), taking them to ninth place in La Liga.
Getafe and Leganes ended their game goalless at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez, meaning Getafe are now unbeaten in eight games at home.
