James Collins has been added to the Aston Villa squad by Dean Smith, after the manager was impressed by the experienced defender, and was keen to add him to his side for the busy festive period.
Former Wales international Collins has been without a club since being released by Premier League outfit West Ham in recent months, but seems to be willing to spend time with Villa, albeit for a very short while.
On principal, the defender has signed a five week deal with the promotion chasers, as they have been plagued by injury at the start of the current campaign.
At present, manager Dean Smith only has youngsters Axel Tuanzebe and James Chester at his disposal, and so the addition of Collins will be much welcomed by the Villa squad.
The centre half, who had a short stint with the club between 2009-2012, making 109 appearances, is set to make a heros return to Villa Park.

He is due to sign the relevant paperwork for the short term deal in the next few days.
