According to a report from the ‘Mail Online’, Premier League champions Manchester City are weighing up the notion of signing left back Ben Chilwell from Leicester City. The Englishman has enjoyed a great start to the season, making 16 appearances so far for Claude Puel’s side, which led to a first international call up, and a senior debut in September.
It is being widely reported that the player is attracting interest from Pep Guardiola and Manchester City, who have been plunged into an injury crisis in recent weeks, with first choice full back ,Benjamin Mendy, suffering yet another set back in his recovery. While Mendy is undoubtedly the preferred option for the champions, he has spent more time on the treatment table than the pitch during an injury hit 18 months in Manchester.
In the Frenchman’s absence, manager Guardiola has been forced to deploy Delph, Zinchenko, Laporte and Danilo in the left back position, yet none of those alternatives really paid dividends.
21 year old Chilwell only signed a six year extension to his stay at the King Power stadium last month, and so City would have to stump up an impressive fee in order to take him from the midlands club. Nevertheless, if there is one club that have the financial might to convince the ‘foxes’ to sell, it is the champions.
