Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale have all struggled for form at Real Madrid this season.
'Los Blancos' currently sit in fifth place in the La Liga standings, seven points off leaders Barcelona.
As a result of the sluggish start, according to the Spanish media outlet, Real Madrid want Cavani to bolster their attacking line and could make a move for the Uruguayan striker when the transfer window re-opens in January.
Cavani has been surrounded by controversy since the altercation between him and Neymar over free-kick and penalty duties in PSG's 2-0 win over Lyon in September.
He is reportedly 'going crazy' over his desire for a move away, making any approach from Zinedine Zidane more welcome.
However, Cavani is understood to prefer a move to the Premier League, and wants to join a club where he will be the focal point, something that he is currently not in Paris.
The 30-year-old has tried to play down his feud with Neymar, describing it as just 'football stuff'.
He said: 'These are things you discuss in the locker room. Everything has a solution. It's all relaxed now. It is important that everyone strives for the same goal.'
