CAS received the appeals from both teams after the African confederation (CAF) ordered the game to be replayed at a neutral venue. Wydad Casablanca refused to carry on with the match on 31st May in sign of protest at the referee's decision to disallow the goal which would have been an equaliser.
Wydad and Esperance drew 1-1 in the first leg and the former pulled out of the second leg in Rades after 59 minutes when they had a goal disallowed for offside.
The Gambian referee Bakary Gassama could not use the VAR as it was broken. As a result, the Wydad players left the pitch. The match was held up for more than an hour and the referee gave the victory and the trophy to the Tunisian side.
Afterwards, the CAF Executive Committee ordered the match to be replayed at a neutral venue, but both clubs appealed to CAS and claim they should be awarded the victory as be awarded the prize money for winning the competition.
"The clubs and the CAF have prepared and agreed upon a procedural timetable for the CAS arbitration, with a final decision to be issued, at the latest, on 31 July 2019," the CAS statement read.
