Europe's top clubs got overconfident with Haaland. The Spanish press said he would move to Real Madrid this summer. What could go wrong? Well, Dortmund decided to buy him in January and their chance had gone. Now they all fear something similar could happen with Camavinga.
Football has taught us a valuable lesson this season. You have to show faith in young talent before it is too late. Dortmund decided to do that with Haaland before anyone else and it has proven to be a great decision.
All those who wanted to get the Norwegian have been left with a feeling of what if. He has gone from costing 20 million euros to whatever Dortmund want him to cost. And if they managed to get more than 100 for Dembele the expect much more for Haaland despite us being in a financial crisis as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Camavinga is now wanted by everyone including Real Madrid. At 17, he is seen as a midfielder for the future and it seems a matter of time before he leaves Rennes.
The problem is that if Red Bull Salzburg did not need to sell Haaland, Rennes even less so.
Camavinga's initial asking price will be a lot, but it could sky rocket if another club like Dortmund come along. The difference is that right now Camavinga will not be sold at a a bargain price unlike Haaland who went for 20 million.
Whoever signs Camavinga first will be a club with a lot of money and who are willing to spend million of euros on a player under 18. And it will be very difficult for a club like that to let him go if he then becomes the star many think he will become.
