Gerardo Martino has resigned from his post as coach of the Argentina national team, less than one month before the Olympic Games get underway in Rio.
The coach had vowed to remain in charge of the Olympic squad following the Copa America Centenatio heartbreak, but Lionel Messi's retirement, chaos within the Argentine Football Association and serious issues over squad selection ahead of the Olympic Games, has forced him to change his mind.
Martino took over as head coach following the 2014 World Cup, and held a pretty impressive record of losing just one competitive match whilst in charge of the national team.
However, he has come under a lot of criticism for failing to beat Chile in two consecutive Copa America finals, which has prolonged Argentina's title drought to 23 years.
In total the 53-year-old won 19 of the 29 games he directed, with seven draws and three defeats.
