In no major suprise, Barcelona will not go for De Ligt. This possibility came about this transfer window after the former Ajax man ended negotiations with Juventus to renew his contract. As a result, his agents informed several clubs that he was available.
One of these clubs who were informed, was Barcelona. 'Sport' reports that the club have decided against pursuing a deal because it would be too expensive. He would cost around 100 million euros. At least, that is what the 'Old Lady' would ask for him. Furthermore, he wants to earn 10 million euros a season.
Neither of these figures are viable for the Spanish side at this time. The CEO is having to balance a delicate financial situation and has made it clear on several occasions that the club cannot afford players of this calibre. This is why they were unable to go for Erling Haaland, for example.
The fact that Barcelona will not bid for De Ligt does not mean that other teams won't. Chelsea are closely monitoring him and due to their new owners, could match Juventus' asking price. Alternatively, they could offer a swap deal with a large sum of money.
