Ilkay Gundogan is one of the most important players in Manchester City's midfield. However, the German's future is far from assured at the Sky Blues. The former Dortmund player is out of contract this season and will be a free agent this summer unless the Cityzens come to an agreement with the player to renew his contract.
Barcelona are keeping a close eye on the midfielder's situation as the 'Cules' would be very interested in signing a player of such a high level and for free. Moreover, the player himself revealed after Manchester City's qualification to the Champions League semi-finals that he is in negotiations with the Catalan giants: "There are talks in private with Barcelona, but I'm not going to go into details".
Given this situation, Sky Blues boss Pep Guardiola held a press conference ahead of his side's FA Cup semi-final clash with Sheffield United and was asked about the player's future: "We still don't know what's going to happen with Gundogan's future," he said.
"He's 100% focused on the present. What’s going to happen for the future, is going to happen. The best for him, he’s going to deserve it," the Spaniard concluded.
