Barcelona could get themselves into legal and judicial issues because of how they are managing Ousmane Dembele's unsuccessful renewal talks. 'Marca', through judicial sources, has revealed which official laws could lead to Joan Laporta's Barca getting into trouble. That would be the worst thing for the club given their poor financial situation.
Article 50 of the Workers Statute allows a employee to request the termination of his work contract with his employer if the employer commits a serious breach of the agreement reached between the two parties. In addition, article 15 of the Real Decree which regulates these circumstances in professional sport says that the employee could receive two months salary per year of service in compensation.
These two parts of Spanish law could lead to serious consequences for Barcelona because the club have made it clear in public that they want the Frenchman to leave immediately despite Dembele having a contract.
If Dembele wants to take the case to the courts, he would have a very good chance of winning, but that is getting ahead of ourselves. We have to wait and see whether Barcelona are capable of looking for a new club for the player, something which would make things much easier. German media outlet 'Sport1' mentions that if Dembele leaves in January, Barca will have to give Borussia Dortmund five million euros in compensation.
