'El Confidencial' revealed that Rubiales made a commission agreement with Pique worth 24 million euros concerning the Supercopa in Saudi Arabia. The daily paper also revealed how much money each time received for participating in the mini tournament. Barca and Real both took home eight million euros, while the others only earnt two million each.
Enrique Cerezo was questioned on the matter when he attended an interview on 'Cadena SER'. He did not want to speak in too much detail but, he did make it clear that if the other two Spanish giants were able to earn so much from the event, he will attempt to boost Atletico's share of the commission from future editions.
"If they charged eight million, then we will try to charge more if we go next season. That is what's been said, we haven't seen the contracts. I speak for us. If this true, I will try to increase our rate", he expressed.
He explained how the Spanish FA dealt with his club concerning how much money Atletico would take from the tournament: "We have been to the Supercopa twice. They offered us a few conditions, we accepted them and we haven't been involved in anyone else's dealings. This is something between the Federation and each individual club".
In terms of the commission split, he said the following: "It's not ethical to me, but the commission is not prohibited. In any case, I don't know the issue. What I don't know, I can't comment on. Everything has its own explanation. Those involved in the matter are the ones who have to talk about it".
Simeone was more direct during his press conference ahead of Atletico's match against Granada: "Madrid and Barcelona have some explaining to do", commented the Argentinian.
