Aaron Ramsey seems to be on the way out of the exit door at Arsenal, having failed to agree new terms on a contract extension. The Welshman has been with the 'Gunners' for a decade, since signing from Cardiff City in 2008, but he is now certain to leave the club after his demands to have parity with the team's top earners were rejected by the club.
The Welshman is believed to be on wages of around £110,000 per week; but he is unhappy that other key players in the team will be earning vastly more than him, despite them failing to consistently outperform his displays on the pitch.
Recent signings Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are each thought to be earning £170,000 per week, while teammate Mesut Ozil signed a bumper contract extension last season worth £350,000 per week, nearly three times Ramsey's current deal.
However club legend Ian Wright has weighed in on suggestions that Ramsey deserves to be offered better terms by the club.
The former 'Gunners' forward told 'BBC 5 Live': " What I do like about him and what I will always give him credit for, is that he never hides, never ever hides. No matter what stick he gets, he never hides. I have to stick with Arsenal, they have to make this kind of stance, the amount of players we've lost in this fashion. I believe that Arsenal want him to stay, but they have to make this stance."
The 'fashion' as referred to be Wright, is the manner that Arsenal have been held to ransom by players in recent years, who have run down their contracts in order to lever an advantage when negotiating new wage deals. And Arsenal legend Wright believes that it is important that the club now set a new precedent against such things taking place.
He praised the club's conduct on 'BBC 5 Live', stating: "I think Arsenal have to do this, they have to make everybody else in the squad know how it's going to be from this day onwards, and that's why the withdrawal of the contract is a big statement from them. And it's a massive one as we're on the verge of losing another player that's a good player for Arsenal."
