The Basque newspaper 'Deia' says that Arsenal have had their eye on Unai Núñez, one of the bastions of the Athletic Bilbao defence.
At 22 years old, he is a regular in the Athletic Bilbao defence, and his performance hasn't gone unnoticed. He already started to be linked with the big teams in Europe before the break.
And now Arsenal have joined the bidding, a club in reconstruction that see the Basque defender as the player that would strengthen their defence.
Unai Núñez is under contract at Athletic Bilbao until 2023, and knowing the Bilbao clubs' policy with regards to players, Arsenal will have to meet his release clause, which is 'only' 30 million euros.
His renewal and wage increase (and the subsequent improved release clause) are at a standstill, so it wouldn't be unreasonable for a million-dollar club to come and take him away at the drop of a hat.
What could save Athletic Bilbao from this happening is the economic crisis that are going to make clubs be very careful when spending money when football is played again after the break caused by the coronavirus.
