Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo responded to 'Record', as they said that the striker threatened to leave the national team after his substitution against Switzerland. However, it was denied by the Portuguese Football Federation. The striker emphasised the "unity" of the group.

According to 'Record', the Portugal striker threatened to leave the training camp when he found out that he was not going to play against Switzerland. However, the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) on Thursday denied Cristiano Ronaldo threatened to abandon the World Cup squad.

The same media outlet reports that an argument with the coach was the straw that broke the camel's back. He considered leaving the squad but he did not do so because he thought about how much was at stake for Portugal in the biggest competition.

"The FPF clarifies that at no time did the captain of the Selecao, Cristiano Ronaldo, threaten to leave the national team during the stay in Qatar," said the federation.

Meanwhile, the player spoke about it on his social media: "We are a group too united to be broken by external pressure. A nation too brave to be frightened by any adversary. A team in the truest sense of the word. We will fight for the dream until the end! Believe in us! Go on, Portugal."
