Georginio Wijnaldum's arrival at Barcelona is almost complete. According to transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano, both parties have already reached a verbal agreement. The journalist reported on this agreement this Tuesday, however 24 hours later he has all but confirmed the arrival of the Dutch player at the Catalan side.
It appears that the deal has been completed, meaning the Liverpool player - a club to whom he has already said his goodbyes - will sign for Barca until 30 June 2024. The aforementioned source also highlights that Wijnaldum will sign his new contract with Barca in the next few days, as there are still certain details to finalise, such as the salary the player will receive at the Camp Nou.
Thus, the Catalan side will land the in-demand midfielder on a free, after he didn't renew his contract with the English side and so will terminate at the end of June this year.
Koeman and Wijnaldum - together at Barca?
The Dutch nationality that both Ronald Koeman and Gini Wijnaldum share have led the press to report that the player is a transfer request specifically from the current Barca manager.
It is an arrival that could be finalised whilst Koeman's future at the club is still up in the air. In fact, Joan Laporta, Rafa Yuste and Mateu Alemany were seen in the club offices this Tuesday alongside Jan Kabalt, Koeman's lawyer and Wijnaldum's agent.
They held a meeting in which the verbal agreement between both parties regarding the signing of Wijnaldum was finalised, a decision that could mean that Koeman stays on at the helm of the Catalan side.
