According to Italian publication 'La Gazetta dello Sport', the 'Rossoneri' are keen to refresh their ranks, with a focus on bringing younger players into the club in the near future.
The club's recent acquisitions certainly comply with the policy, with Lucas Paquetá, Alen Halilovic, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Samu Castillejo, Stefan Simic, Mattia Caldara, Diego Laxalt and Alessandro Plizzari all younger than 25.
With this new policy in mind, three names are thought to dominate the club's wishlist in January, namely: Yannick Ferreira Carrasco, who is keen on a return to Europe following a spell in the Chinese Super League, Sassuolo's Stefano Sensi and wantaway Barcelona playmaker Denis Suarez.
However, as with any rule there are and will be exceptions, with moves for players aged 30 or over still possible, providing the player in question is a top-level performer, hence the club's recent interest in Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who opted to remain with LA Galaxy, and Cesc Fabregas, who looks destine for a move to Monaco.
Whilst moves for players who sit inbetween the two age brackets are not ruled out, they would have to tick a lot more boxes than previously to be pursued. According to 'Calcio Mercato', Premier League-based pair Stefan Johansen and Pedro Obiang are two players who are of interest to Gennaro Gattuso's side who do not quite fit their new model.
