200 million in cut-backs, Barca's goal for their wage bill

The step taken by Pique was the first in a huge effort to which everyone will have to commit if Barcelona want to return to normality in their bank accounts. Laporta already explained the situation in detail this Monday.
"At the moment we are working, the players have a fixed salary and a bonus, everything is being rationalised. Some players such as Gerard Pique have allowed us to carry out this registration (by reducing his salary), in other cases we are contemplating postponing payments or reducing bonuses", the Barca president underlined.
According to 'Goal', the objective of the Barcelona directive is to reduce this season's wage bill by 200 million euros. A move which is deemed necessary to restore the club's financial balance.
Pique led the way, but Barca hope that the other captains follow in his wake. "The idea is to restructure everything, with the entire squad. There was already a reduction in 2019/20 due to COVID-19. Now they have been asked to make a second effort and the first reaction was one of surprise", Laporta added.
Apart from these cut-backs, those at the Camp Nou want to offload three players that boast the highest wages. They are Coutinho, Pjanic and Umtiti, the latter of whom has been threatened with his contract being rescinded if he refuses to accept an offer from another club.
