The 31-year-old forward has already secured the Ballon d'Or and the FIFA Best Player award to cap off a phenomenal year that saw him lead Real to the Champions League trophy and Portugal to the Euro 2016 title.
Ronaldo is however facing stiff competition for the Laureus distinction, as fellow candidates include the likes of NBA superstars Lebron James and Stephen Curry, tennis world number one Andy Murray and last but certainly not least Athletics legend Usain Bolt, who has already won the award on three occasions in the past.
