The visitors did not give up the opportunity to progress to the semi-final of the Copa del Rey, for the first time in their history, without a fight. Claudio Beauvue hit the post in the 5th minute of the match from a well-struck free-kick which Madrid goalkeeper Kiko Casilla had foolishly left thinking it was going out.
However, the breakthrough would come in the 31st minute from an unlikely source in Javier Eraso. The midfielder found himself in tonnes of space 25-yards from the goal and decided to have a go. He struck the ball beautifully to nestle it in the top left corner, giving Casilla no chance of saving it.
The goal meant that Leganes drew level on aggregate, meaning that the tie would be forced into extra-time if it finished there.
