In another show of the Swede's outrageous character, Zlatan Ibrahimovic was the star turn of an 'Open Media Day' at the MLS. An event organised by the league which served as a prelude to the upcoming 2019 season. And once there, Ibrahimovic did not hesitate to commence a review of his performance from the previous campaign.
The former Manchester United forward described his first season in the United States as 'catastrophic', as he failed to aid his team in reaching the close season play-offs.
"Entering the play-offs in sixth place is catastrophic. You are either the first or you are nothing," explained Ibrahimovic, who in his debut campaign recorded 22 goals and 7 assists across 27 matches.
After the failure of 2018, some people suggested that Zlatan would try his luck with another franchise, yet they clearly did not know of the strong mentality of the Swede. "My priority was always LA Galaxy. Last year was not a normal situation for me. Wherever I go, I win, I have triumphed everywhere," he said bullishly.
In the same regard, both parties reached an agreement for the 37 year old forward to continue his playing career in the United States. The Swede continues to be calm, though: " We spoke as a team. I'm here and I can sign for another three or four years if I wanted to, but I told the people at Galaxy that we should go from year to year, in order to protect the team in the middle of the strict MLS rules."
The new challenge to unseat Atlanta United as MLS champions begins on 2 March, when Ibrahimovic's LA Galaxy host Chicago Fire at the StubHub Center.
