Slaven Bilic's side are searching for reinforcements at left-back due to the injury of Aaron Cresswell and have now identified Davide Santon as the man the fill the void left by the injured defender.
West Ham have already made attempts to sign Hull's Andy Robertson and Norwich's Martin Olsson, but have seen all of their bids rejected.
They are now in talks with Inter Milan over a potential loan move for Santon, who could end up making his stay permanent.
It is being suggested that West Ham want Santon on loan for a season and will pay £5m should they want the defender to stay permanently.
A move to West Ham would be the Italian's second spell in England, having spent three-and-a-half seasons at Newcastle from 2011-2015.
