Eusebio, Miguel Angel Nadal, Mijatovic y Panucci explained their sensations with the Champions League at the Palacio Congresos de Marbella. This was an event organised by 'Marca' during the week.
Mijatovic, who was the hero for Real Madrid in their seventh Champions League, confessed to having had a hard time before beating Juventus. "They were the favourites and had more experience. We were a little scared," he stated.
"In front of us were a champion team and we were without experience, except for Panucci. I thought it was my last chance and I was motivated by it. I was thinking of all the generations of Real Madrid who hadn't been able to play it," he explained.
It was a controversial win, as Mijatovic, at the time of scoring, was offside. "The Italians always protest and in that play none of them did. With VAR or without VAR we were just champions," he said.
Panucci spoke along the same lines: "It was an obsession to win the seventh. They told us everywhere. At breakfast, at lunch... the whole city was waiting for it. The season in the Liga was bad and we had to win the Champions League".
The former Real Madrid players spoke about the seventh Champions League, whereas the former Barcelona players spoke about the final at Wembley in 1992. "It was a very big day in the history of Barcelona. It completely changed the club's thinking and their way of understanding football," Nadal said.
There Eusebio recalled Cruyff's figure: "I remember when he drew the game plan. I had never seen it before. A revolution in the world of football. We enjoyed training and matches".
