Real Madrid signed David Alaba on a free last summer after he did not renew at Bayern Munich. After a season, the Austrian analysed the season in an interview with 'Kicker'.
The defender was key for Ancelotti in the centre of defence together with Militao. The Italian opted to play him as a centre-back instead of a full-back. He has been one of the footballers with most game time this season and he is a very important player in Madrid's defence.
"For me, the move was important. it was the move I also wanted, and if at the end of the year that can also be managed in terms of success, then I'm even happier. A year ago, of course, it was still a very long way away. But I always have these dreams inside me, I work to achieve these goals that I propose," he explained.
Then, he spoke about his preference to play as a centre-back: "That was one of the targets I proposed. But above all, I said to myself from the first day here: I want and I have to keep on being myself, that's the most important thing. And I wanted to help the team with my play, and especially accept responsibility. That was very important for me."
He also spoke about the next Champions League final: "We've got a special spirit and competitive character which we've shown in the knockout games. We're a team which always responds and never gives up. We're Real Madrid. We'll go with this confidence to Paris to win."
The Austrian could end his first season as a Real Madrid player in style. With the La Liga title already won, Alaba could win the club's 14th Champions League to complete a double which was won back in 2017. It would be his third Champions League trophy after the ones won in 2013 and 2020 at Bayern.
