Napoli travelled to Sampdoria on the final day of the 2016-17 Serie A season. The home side were comfortably in mid-table while Napoli needed the three points and hoped Roma slipped up against Genoa to claim the second and final automatic Champions League spot. Unfortunately for Sampdoria, they found themselves against a Napoli side who were in fine form. They scored four superb goals.
Dries Mertens put Napoli 0-1 up after 36 minutes before Lorenzo Insigne doubled their lead six minutes later with a lovely chip. Marek Hamsik then all but ended the game in the opening minutes in the second half. Quagliarella pulled one back for Sampdoria almost straight away, but Jose Callejon restored the away side's three goal lead with 25 minutes left to play. Ricky Alvarez then got a last minute consolation for the home side as Napoli won 2-4.
Roma's 3-2 victory over Genoa thanks to a last minute Perotti strike meant Napoli's win counted for nothing. Check out the highlights in the video above!
