Van Dijk reveals 'progress' in negotiations for new Liverpool contract

Liverpool supporters may have something to smile about after the Premier League title party was delayed by their shocking 3-2 defeat against Fulham on Sunday, as Virgil van Dijk provided a positive update about his future at the club.
The Dutch centre-back, whose contract with the Reds expires in June 2025, said that “progress” has been made in protracted negotiations over a new deal while speaking to reporters following their loss at Craven Cottage.
“There is progress, yeah,” Van Dijk said. On whether he would be staying at Anfield beyond the current campaign, the 33-year-old added: “I don’t know, we’ll see. Listen, these are internal discussions, and we’ll see.
“I love the club, I love the fans, and they were there for us again, and we wanted to reward them. But I want them to be there Sunday again (against West Ham) and make the stadium an amazing venue like always for us.”
Despite their recent defeat, Liverpool remain firmly on track to lift the Premier League trophy. Ahead of their clash against West Ham, Slot's men only need 11 more points to mathematically secure a record-equalling 20th English league title.
