Premier League giants Manchester United and Arsenal are set to compete for the signature of promising talent Arne Maier in January.
With similar reports emerging in September, but with the midfielder having already competed in 16 games in all competitions for Hertha Berlin so far this season.
Maier's main role tends to be defensive midfield; both United and Arsenal see the player as competition for the likes of Marouane Fellaini and Lucas Torreira in their respective squads.
The young German is yet to score or record an assist so far this season, but he is a consistent top performer in the heart of the midfield.
According to the report from 'The Sun' Maier's characteristics on the field can be best compared to veteran compatriot Toni Kroos, and so it is no wonder why some of the biggest teams on the continent want to sign him.
It is thought that Hertha Berlin value the midfielder at £15million, yet it is thought that the two vying Premier League clubs will have to pay well in excess of that fee, especially if they wish to take the player in January.
