Touching the cup is bad luck, and Payet learnt the hard way
Before the game, the Marseille fans lit up the atmosphere in the Stade de Lyon with a daunting pyrotechnics display.
When the Atlético Madrid and Marseille players stepped out onto the pitch, almost all of them chose not to even look at the trophy.
Everyone, except Payet. The OM midfielder dared to brush his fingertips on the prize and fell victim to it's curse.
30 minutes after touching the trophy, the Frenchman left the pitch injured and in tears. Coincidence? Probably. But spooky nonetheless.
