"The suspension is very long, the gesture wasn't for the referee"

Lewandowski was sent off against Osasuna. The player was sent off for two yellow cards and he ended up making a gesture which, for many, was aimed at the referee. He has been given a total of a three game suspension although Barca have appealed it. The Pole hopes his prayers will be answered because he claims that he did not disrespect the referee. 

"For me, the suspension is too much. The gesture was not aimed at the referee, but towards the bench. I hope the appeal is successful," he said before Poland's afternoon training session in Doha. That is where his team have been based since last Thursday. 

Lewandowski was given a one game suspension for two yellow cards in the 30th minute of the clash on 8th November at El Sadar and two more games for "disrespectful attitudes or comments towards the referees"

Referee Jesus Gil Manzano wrote in his match report that the striker "once he was sent off and when he was going off the pitch, twice made a gesture of disapproval of the refereeing decision by putting his finger to his nose and then pointing towards the referee with his thumb."

The referee then said that "when he was getting ready to leave the field of play, he once again made the gesture to the assistant referee number 1 and in front of the fourth official," he added.
