Terry reportedly told his team mates to 'keep in touch', making it known that he would not be returning to the west Midlands club.
Had Villa been promoted, it could have turned out differently. However, with their parachute payments dwindling, and Terry not being willing to spend another year in the second tier, they simply cannot afford to keep the former Chelsea player.
Villa had taken something of a financial gamble this season, aiming to get back into the top flight, and Terry may not be the only one leaving as the 'Villians' tighten their belts.
Jack Grealish will attract interest, while a number of the loan deals will not be made permanent.
Terry himself took to Instagram to express his disappointment.
