Ter Stegen close to renewing contract: salary to decrease year on year

Barcelona are close to concluding a deal to renew Marc-André Ter Stegen's contract. It has been in the making for months but had to be postponed several times due to the pandemic.
'Mundo Deportivo' reported that the German keep was looking to become the highest-paid shot-stopper on the planet, but he understands the club's financial problems and will make a sacrifice alongside some of Barca's basketball stars like Hanga and Mirotic.
The media outlet confirmed that Ter Stegen will renew until 2025 with the Azulgrana, ensuring that the team will retain the services of one of Europe's premier goalkeepers for the foreseeable future. The contract does have a twist though: the wage will decrease next season and continue to do so year on year to aid the club's financial recovery.
He was already contracted until 2022 and this will be the second time he has renewed with the Azulgrana. He arrived in 2014 after Andoni Zubizarreta left and in 2017 when Bravo was shown the door, earning the German a contract that initially lasted until 2019 before being renewed to last until 2022. Now, he will be a Barcelona player for three more years with a release clause of around 180 million euros, the same as before.
