Arsenal announced on Wednesday morning via social media that Japanese full-back Takehito Tomiyasu had signed a new long-term contract with the Gunners. The defender has renewed his contract for a further two years, i.e. until 2026.
Although the Japan international is not a regular starter for the Emirates Stadium outfit, manager Mikel Arteta sees him as a key player in his plans, going so far as to claim earlier in the season that his defending is one of the best he has ever seen.
Tomiyasu, who has made 20 competitive appearances this season so far, 10 of them starts, gave his first words after renewing with the Gunners, claiming he has 'dedicated his future to Arsenal'.
"I’m playing for Arsenal and this means I’m playing for Arsenal’s supporters. So that’s why I dedicate my life for this club, and for the supporters. I want to give them something back," said the Japanese defender.
