Sporting CP move swiftly on from Viktor Gyokeres, sign Luis Suarez

Sporting CP have a new striker in their ranks. Following the departure of Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal, the Portuguese side reached an agreement with Almeria for the transfer of Colombian forward Luis Suarez, for whom they have paid €25 million.
"Almeria have reached an agreement with Sporting CP for the transfer of Luis Suarez. Thanks for everything, Luis! We wish you all the best in your next chapter," read the statement released by the Rojiblancos on their social media profiles.
The Colombian international embarks on a new chapter in his career after two and a half seasons with the Andalusian side. His record stands at 41 goals in 79 appearances. No mean feat. In the 2024-25 season, the striker was the top scorer in the Second Division with 27 goals.
Luis Suarez, who has signed with his new club until 2030, faces the daunting task of filling the void left by Viktor Gyokeres, one of the top goalscorers in European football. In just two seasons at Sporting CP, he scored 97 goals, a tally that sets the bar very high.
