Given the fact that Marcelo seemed happy to fight for the left-back spot over the last few weeks, today's report from the Catalan press does come as something of a surprise.
Real Madrid's number 12 has reportedly asked to leave the club as he seeks a new challenge elsewhere, according to 'Sport'.
The aforementioned newspaper has mentioned that there are four big European sides after the Brazilian: Arsenal, Juventus, AC Milan and PSG, with a move to Turin to link up with his old friend Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly his favoured option.
It certainly has not been an easy season for the full-back, with his poor performances matching those of the rest of a struggling Real Madrid side. However, it seemed that Zidane's return to the Bernabéu was going to revitalise the 31 year-old.
In fact, 'Los Blancos' were planning to keep Marcelo and new signing Ferland Mendy to battle over the left-back spot, allowing Sergio Reguilón to move on loan to Sevilla.
However, Marcelo's departure would change everything, especially with Theo Hernández edging closer to AC Milan.
It now remains to be seen where Marcelo will end up next season, with various European sides believing they can get the Madrid star back to his best.
