Simeone on Vermeeren's debut: "We knew he might not be comfortable"

Arthur Vermeeren already knows what it feels like to wear the Atletico Madrid crest on his chest. One of the new arrivals this winter made his debut against Rayo Vallecano and he did it, moreover, in the starting XI.

The Belgian did not have too much impact on the 'Colchonero' game. He has just arrived and has a lot of work ahead of him, something that Diego Pablo Simeone knew beforehand.

After the game, the Argentinian coach was asked why he substituted Vermeeren before the start of the second half and he explained that he lacks playing time.

"The best investment with footballers is that they play, there is no other way for them to take their place and have the responsibility of wearing the Atletico Madrid shirt. We knew that he might not be so comfortable.... It's a stage we have to overcome," he commented.

The coach has no doubt that Vermeeren will adapt and show his talent: "The lad is playing well, he is young and we will help him to grow and that, with peace of mind, he can play his best football.

In this match, Vermeeren played as a central midfielder. In any case, this young player stands out for his versatility, so Atletico have no doubts that he will perform in any position once he gains experience under the orders of Simeone.
