Sergio Ramos sets European red card record

The sending off was the 20th of Ramos' La Liga career, and means he is now the most red-carded player in the history of Europe's top five leagues. The record was previously held by Cyril Rool, who amassed 19 red cards in Ligue 1. 

Ramos' dismissal was his 25th in all competitions, having also picked up three in the Champions League and two in the Copa del Rey. This means he has now picked up more than double the number of red cards as any other player in Real Madrid history, with Fernando Hierro and Guti following with 12 and 10 respectively. 

Ramos' red card means he will miss Real Madrid's clash with Levante next weekend through suspension, but will be available to face Barcelona in the Copa del Rey on February 27. The Spaniard is also serving a Champions League ban, having been controversially booked in the round of 16 first leg against Ajax.
