Serie A bottom club Salernitana sacked Fabio Liverani on Tuesday and hired the fourth coach so far this season, Stefano Colantuono, who will lead the team until the end of the campaign.
"Salernitana 1919 announces that it has relieved Fabio Liverani of his duties as first team coach. In thanking him for the work he has done, the club wishes the coach the best of professional luck for the continuation of his career," the Italian club said.
Liverani was the third coach of the season, after Paulo Sousa, who stayed until 10th October, and Filippo 'Pippo' Inzaghi, who stayed until 11th February.
It was then, after the sacking of the elder of the Inzaghi brothers - Simone coaches Inter - that the club, in a desperate situation, turned to Liverani, who had not coached since December 2022, when he was sacked by Cagliari. In the five matches he played, the Roman coach recorded four defeats and one draw.
For the remaining 10 matchdays, the club announced an old acquaintance as Colantuono, who already coached the team in 2017-18 and 2021-22. The task of the new coach is to save an almost hopeless Salernitana, bottom of the Italian championship, 11 points from safety in a season in which they have won only 2 games.
