Bayern Munich coach Carlo Ancelotti has revealed he was left in awe of former Brazil striker Ronaldo, labelling him an absolute phenomenon.
The two-time World Cup winner suffered a number of serious injury blows throughout his career, perhaps preventing him from being named among the small collective of the greatest players ever to play the game.
Ancelotti coached Ronaldo during the Brazilian’s short stint with Milan in 2007, which saw him make just 20 Serie A appearances – hitting nine goals in 20 matches.
“He was a phenomenon,” Ancelotti told AS.
“Even when he was injured or weighed 100kg, he was an absolute phenomenon.”
Ronaldo suffered a thyroid problem later in his career which left him prone to putting on weight.
He scored 62 times in 98 appearances for Brazil, and was named FIFA World Player of the Year on three occasions.
