Ronaldo and Messi have both reportedly requested tickets to watch the Copa Libertadores final which will be contested between Boca Juniors and River Plate.
The fixture will be player at Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu stadium due to violence from the River Plate fans, which cumulated with several Boca players suffering injuries as their team bus was attacked.
Messi has reportedly already confirmed his attendance, however Cristiano Ronaldo has yet to confirm that he will be at the game, which would be his first time back at the stadium since he left Madrid for Juventus in the summer.
Convincing the Portuguese star to return to the stadium may be a tricky task, with the player reportedly not leaving on the best of terms.
"Cristiano would be delighted to accept the RFEF's invitation and watch the game alongside Messi in the VIP lounge but the wounds of his exit have not competely healed over", a source revealed to newspaper 'AS'.
The RFEF announced that, "The presence of Cristiano and Messi would be a wonderful message for football, and it would put both players in a setting where they deserve to be".
The Spanish publication also understands that Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez is planning to sit Ronaldo and Messi together in the presidential box, in a gesture of respect to the two players who have dominated the world game over the past decade.
