RFEF wants the Spanish Super Cup to be played in Saudi Arabia until 2034

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) plans to extend the contract with Saudi Arabia for another five years so that the Super Cup will be held in this country until 2034 and to modify the distribution of income so that participating clubs receive more, particularly the smaller ones.

The president of the RFEF, Rafael Louzan, anticipated this proposal to the media in an informal conversation at the reception on the eve of the final of the Super Cup in the Saudi city of Jeddah, the first in which he acts as host after his election as head of the federation last December 16th.

Louzan had anticipated his desire to maintain the current Super Cup contract, signed by former president Luis Rubiales until 2029, but his intention is to extend it until 2034, when Saudi Arabia will host the World Cup, four years after it is organized by Spain, Portugal and Morocco. To this end, he has already made contact with the Saudi authorities with a view to reaching a new agreement.

In his speech at the reception, Louzan defended “going hand in hand” with Saudi Arabia. “Their successes will be our successes,” he stressed.

According to the current contract, the RFEF pockets 40 million euros, half of which goes to the participating clubs and the other half to the federation's coffers.

In response to complaints from Athletic Club and Mallorca, like those of other clubs in previous editions, about the fact that the four participants do not receive the same amount, since Real Madrid and Barcelona get a minimum of six million, Louzan has undertaken to open negotiations before next year's edition.
