Real Sociedad v Napoli to be without spectators
Real Sociedad have announced this Monday that there will not be spectators at the Reale Arena on Thursday between Real Sociedad and Napoli on matchday two in the Europa League.
Sociedad said in a statement that the worsening of the pandemic has forced them to cancel their plans of opening the stadium to a limited number of club members."
San Sebastian now has an infection rate of more than 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days so it is in the "red zone", the category with the most number of restrictions in the Basque Country.
The club is upset about "the serious situation which prevents people from attending the game although they have said that "it's time to be more sensible than ever". They have made an appeal to fans to "accept the seriousness of the situation" and "to act in a responsible manner".
Real Sociedad announced two weeks ago their intention of allowing access to 1000 people at the Anoeta. That was the maximum number allowed by the Basque Government at the time although it was later reduced to 600.
UEFA allow crowds at their matches up to a maximum of 30% capacity and Sociedad wanted to open the Anoeta for the Europa League match.
