Martin Odegaard is now an Arsenal player, the Premier League side confirmed at 8am local time (9am CEST),
The 22 year-old Norwegian had spent the second half of last term on loan at the club. He made 20 appearances under Arteta and scored two goals as well as getting two assists including one goal in the 2-1 victory over Tottenham at the Emirates.
There is no news on the transfer fee or the length of the contract, but what is certain is that Odegaard will be unavailable for selection for Sunday's match with Chelsea as the club are awaiting "visa clearance."
The Norwegian had not hidden the fact he wanted to return to Arsenal due to his lack of first team opportunities in Madrid and he has now got his wish.
He could play in Wednesday's Carabao Cup tie at West Brom or in the Premier League trip to Man City the following Saturday.
