Although he was predicted to be in Colombia's squad for the matches against Peru and Argentina, James Rodriguez will not be in those two matches after all. He will also miss the Copa America.
The Colombian FA (FCF) said this Friday that the Everton footballer will not be able to help Colombia due to a lack of fitness.
"Colombia's coaching staff are reporting that the player James Rodriguez has been ruled out of the games against Peru and Argentina for 2022 World Cup qualifying and the 2021 Copa America," the FCF's statement began.
In recent days, the winger underwent medical examinations which showed that he is not fully fit so he will not form part of Reinaldo Rueda's squad for those matches or the South American Championship (Copa America)," it continued.
It is a setback for Colombia, who have lost a star player for the vital matches. However, the FCF said they hope to play the number 10 in the future. "The coach and his assistant are sorry they cannot play James Rodriguez on this occasion and they hope the midfielder will be able to form part of another squad representing our country with the professionalism he has always shown."
