Newcastle consider signing in-form Boniface

Newcastle are not getting the results they expect in the Premier League after qualifying for the Champions League last campaign. The Magpies are eighth on 13 points in domestic competition and have won just one game in European competition - against PSG.
For this reason, they are hoping to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window. Not only to improve their performances but also because Sandro Tonali, who arrived at St James Park in the summer, is expected to be sidelined for several months for being accused of gambling offences.
The Premier League side have Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips on their agenda but also want to sign a striker to bolster their attack.
According to 'Sky Sports', Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface is the main contender to join the Magpies in January as they have made him their top priority. The Nigerian is having a superb season at Xabi Alonso's side, scoring nine goals and providing three assists in ten appearances.
