The city of Naples is living in shock at the death of Diego Armando Maradona, the player that changed the history of the club forever between 1984 and 1991. Official mourning has been declared there and they are already working so that the stadium gets named after the number 10.
That is what Laura Bismuto confirmed, member of the Naples local community council: "As President of the Toponymy Commission, I have the pleasure and honour to announce to the city that, in agreement with the Mayor and Councillor Alessandra Clemente, we have decided to name the stadium after Diego Maradona".
This proposal will be formalised on Monday and Bismuto promises that the act will be done "immediately". That is the tribute from Napoli to the player, who will thus form part of the historic San Paolo where he played 259 matches and was champion of both the Serie A as well as the UEFA Cup.
This is a follow-up to the initial request from the mayor of the city, Luigi de Magistris, who already assured that he would make this decision on Twitter just after finding out about the passing of the Argentine.
