One of the first things Jose Mourinho did at Tottenham was to ask for a midfielder. The club acted and brought in Gedson Fernandes which was the Portuguese first signing since taking over from Pochettino.
Eleven months later, everything seems to suggest that the footballer on loan from Benfica will go back to Portugal in a matter of weeks. His lack of minutes could see the Lisbon based outfit end the loan spell prematurely.
Mourinho confirmed this to 'SportTV': "I understand the player and Benfica's situation. If they want to end the deal now, we will be willing to collaborate since we want the best for the player. Benfica can decide and we'll accept it."
In the first six months, Gedson played just 262 minutes in 12 matches and he was competing with the likes of Lo Celso and Harry Winks.
But things have got even worse for him this season. Tottenham also signed Hojbjerg and that made it even more difficult for Fernandes. He played just 63 minutes in the Carabao Cup tie with Chelsea.
The Portuguese has not played in the Premier League this season so unless his situation changes radically in the coming weeks, Benfica will get their academy player shortly.
