Atletico Madrid have gone through the most successful period in their history by playing defensive football. Germán Burgos knows this all too well, now working alone after a decade as Diego Simeone's right-hand man.
It seems that the former-goalkeeper wants to shake things up in the modern game. In Spain defensive football is commonplace, and on his Instagram profile, Mono Burgos presented an interesting plan to revolutionise the modern game.
"It occurred to me when I was thinking about how to improve football so that we see more goals. In the Chamìons League, the Copa Libertadores, and all over the world, away goals are worth double. Why not improve the benefits teams get from scoring goals? This would change the game and force sides to attack more", said the Argentinian.
"0-0 cannot be worth the same as 3-3 or 4-4. Otherwise, no-one is rewarded for scoring three times. Why not give no points to anyone after a 0-0? We should reward score-draws, by punishing 0-0s", he suggested.
" It would give us coaches more chances to make tactical decisions. Think about it and, if you agree, let me know. I think that it could be the future of the game, giving draws more excitement and not letting anyone win from a 0-0 draw", he concluded.
