Southampton have seven games remaining in the Premier League to lift themselves out of the bottom three, but they have a tough challenge ahead facing the 'Gunners'.
Arsenal triumphed over CSKA Moscow in the Europe League with a 4-1 victory on Thursday, meaning they will be heading into fixture on Sunday in high spirits.
Lemina's availability is therefore particularly significant for Saints, given that they will be going up against the 24-year-old's compatriot in the Gabonese national team Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Hughes said: ''Mario Lemina has been ill during the week and has trained for the first time [on Friday]. He is weak and has the after-effects of the virus but has trained, so hopefully he will be alright.''
Defender Sam McQueen is also out with a groin injury, but Hughes insisted: ''Otherwise we are healthy as can be. We have a good group here, a talented bunch and the vast majority of them got to eighth last year. We have the talent to win games at this level, and that's what we will do.''
