Marcelo, 14 years as a Real Madrid player: "My family didn't believe it"

Marcelo, in words to 'The Players Tribune', has shown the more personal side of his signing on 15th November 2006 for Real Madrid. The Brazilian acknowledged that not even his family believed it.

"I swear to God that I thought I was going there just to have a conversation...", began Marcelo, who is going through a difficult time because of his irregular performance and his substitution in the shadow of Mendy.

"When I arrived at the meeting with the club, I saw the contracts with the Real Madrid symbol on top and signed them quickly. Then some men in suits took me straight to the field. I was introduced to the press that day and I had no idea that it was going to be my presentation. My family in Brazil didn't believe it until they saw the news on 'Globoesporte'", he concluded.

In total, Marcelo has won 22 titles: 4 Champions League, 4 Club World Cups, 3 European Super Cups, 5 La Ligas, 2 Copa del Reys and 4 Spanish Super Cups.

His spell at Madrid has been marked, especially with Zidane on the bench, by the successes achieved. However, the Brazilian has also gone through some ups and downs that he has known to overcome to return to his best level and be indisputable in the Madrid team.
